How the Activity Works
- Students assemble the Elf Secret Language cipher wheel.
- They use the wheel to decode each of the 15 mystery Christmas words.
- Students write the decoded vocabulary words in their picture dictionary.
- They color and cut out the Christmas pictures.
- Students match each picture to the correct decoded word.
- They glue the pictures into place to complete their Christmas picture dictionary.
Build a Christmas Picture Dictionary
As students solve each secret code, they create their own visual vocabulary reference. Matching the decoded words with pictures helps beginning readers and English language learners connect spelling, meaning, and visual vocabulary.
